Hall of Heroes Success!
Thank you to all who were able to come and participate in the Hall of Heroes afternoon! I was impressed with the costumes and the information that students were able to relay. They have been able to make connections with our study of William Penn based on their hero reading and research. We are only three classical connections away from getting a party!
Classical connections happen when students draw relationships across content or among different sources. For example, we have learned that William Penn was a Quaker, and our scholar who became Betsy Ross told us more about the Quaker religion since Betsy Ross was also a Quaker. We read about the Great Fire of London in 1666 and the scholars who were here last year could relate the rebuilding of St. Paul's Cathedral to the book they read last year: Adam of the Road. We also connected math to our biblical studies when we determined the approximate amount of wine Jesus created from water at the wedding in Cana. Because we have self-contained classes through sixth grade, we are able to make lots of connections together and experience the reality that knowledge is not siloed.
The scholars will be working over the weekend on The World of William Penn, Latin speaking about weather, and perfecting their final drafts on Spanish explorers. Please reach out if you have any questions.
