Constellations, Hearts and Heroes

In Psalm 8:3-4, David writes, "When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained; What is man that You take thought of him, and the son of man that You care for him?" It is truly awe-inspiring to look up at the star filled sky on a dark night and consider the power of our God. We learned a little bit this week about the stars, constellations and asterisms that He put there. And then we tried our hand at making our own constellations. While not as majestic as the ones God created, our toothpick and marshmallow attempts were a lot of fun!


Another highlight was what Dr. Goers introduced to us as "Heart Attacks." Each student was given a paper heart to write their name on. Then all their classmates took a moment to write something kind about that person on the heart. We read Philippians 4:8, which reminds us to think about "whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things." So often, when we have trouble getting along with someone, our sinful default is to dwell on the negative. We begin to believe there is nothing good about that person that is bothering us. But the Bible reminds us that we need to change our thinking and replace the negative thoughts with ones of truth, goodness and beauty.

Finally, we wrapped up the week with Hall of Heroes. All I can say is...WOW! The students did AWESOME!
