Week of Sept. 2nd

Ms. Bisbee

"How do magnets work?"

Welcome to the 2nd Grade Telos Blog!

Here’s a quick look at what we've been up to in the classroom this week:

Highlight of the Week

We had an exciting and spontaneous science class on magnets after a curious student asked, "How do magnets work?" This led to a fun exploration of magnetism! We discovered what makes magnets attract or repel each other, learned about different types of magnets, and tested how strong their magnetic fields are. The students were amazed when the magnets stayed connected even through several layers of paper and their pencil boxes!

To top it off, we celebrated Liam's birthday this week with donuts! Happy birthday, Liam!

Subject Breakdown

Here’s a peek at what we’re doing in our other subjects:

  • Math: We’ve started learning how to add and subtract by tens! The kids are catching on quickly and making great progress.

  • Reading: We began Chapter 2 of Squanto, Friend of the Pilgrims today. The students are loving it, and their comprehension is impressive for their age!

  • Phonics & Spelling: We completed our second spelling test this week, and everyone did an awesome job—every student scored above 80%!

  • History: We’ve just wrapped up a few lessons on First Amendment rights from the U.S. Constitution. The students had some great discussions about the freedoms we enjoy!

  • Science: In addition to our magnet exploration, we’re continuing our lessons on what makes a scientist a scientist, diving deeper into the scientific method.
