Swinging Into the School Routine!
We’re really getting into the groove as we wrap up our third week of school. Here’s a quick peek at what we’ve been up to in the classroom!
Â
Highlight of the Week
This Wednesday, the students had a blast using counting blocks and place value cards to build and explore 3-digit numbers. Tahlia told me she "loved the game" — although, to be honest, I hadn’t planned a game; it was just math class! I guess math is more fun than we thought!
Â
Subject Breakdown
Â
Math: We continued our work on place value in Chapter 1, learning how to compare numbers using the greater than and less than symbols. We also practiced counting to 1,000 by hundreds, tens, and ones.
Â
Phonics & Spelling: This week, we focused on reading and spelling words that end in "-ed," particularly those with the /ed/ sound. Next week, we’ll dive into the other sounds of "-ed" (/d/ and /t/). Be sure to check for next week’s spelling list in your child’s folder today!
Â
Reading: We read Chapter 3 of Squanto, Friend of the Pilgrims and examined different characters through quotes from the text. It’s been exciting to see students making connections and diving deeper into the story!
Â
Science: We wrapped up our lesson on what scientists do. Besides observing, students learned that scientists ask questions, record information, and find answers. We even took the lesson outdoors to see what observations we could make in nature!
Â
History: We learned about the earliest Americans, who traveled from Asia across a land bridge between what is now Russia and Alaska over 20,000 years ago. The students were fascinated by the idea of such a long-ago journey!
Â
Fun Fact: Ask your child what a sperm whale's favorite snack is—and which snake holds the title of the world’s largest!

Field Trip Reminder
Next Friday, September 29th, we’ll be heading to the Natural History Museum at the University of Utah with the third-grade class. We still need chaperones to drive students, so if you’re available, please sign up! We can’t go without the right number of chaperones!
