Week of Sept. 16th

Miss Feaver

First Math Test!

This week the 7th and 8th grade mathematicians have been preparing for their first math test. They should have studied and should perform well on working with adding and subtracting integers (7th) and solving equations with variables (8th). Next week we will move forward in our continued exploration of multiplying and dividing integers (7th) and transformations (8th).

Also this week the 7th and 8th grade scientists have been learning about the nervous system, specifically the structure and function of neurons and the human brain. The students have been highly engaged in the class discussions. Ask your scientist to put that three pounds of gray matter to work and tell you all about how an electrical impulse travels from a pricked finger to the brain and back! Or ask them to explain the structure and function of the different lobes of the human brain.

Having explored inertia, the high school physicists are now studying speed, velocity, acceleration, and free fall. Ask them to explain the differences, especially in terms of driving a car – a great example of the practical application of physics!
