Week of Sept. 2nd

Mrs. Ni

The K/1 class had another terrific week of learning together!

The K/1 class had another terrific week of learning together. As we are studying the virtue of prudence, we read the Aesop’s Fable The Old Lion and Fox. We discussed how important it is to make wise decisions even when others are telling us a wrong thing is good. We continued working on our recitation. This features Ephesians 6:1-3, How Doth the Little Crocodile by Lewis Carrol, and the Preamble of the Constitution. Just as we did with Old King Cole last month, we have created movements and use song to help us remember How Doth the Little Crocodile!

In K Math, we are strengthening our number sense 1-10 by playing games that involve ten frames, building, manipulatives, and writing.  Wednesday we spent time outside writing our numbers with chalk and ‘erasing’ them with water. First grade Math this week focused on number bonds and addition up to 10. We also enjoyed the previous mentioned activities, just with more of a challenge!

For history, we started exploring our timeline song, which highlights events of Ancient History. We learned sign language to follow along with the song and to help us remember so many events! We also learned about the Original colonies and the Boston Tea Party. The class had a good discussion about why the colonists might have left England and why they dumped the tea!

We continue to work on phonemic awareness at all levels. Our literature this week includes, but is definitely not limited to The Quest for the Silver Castle, A House is a House for Me, A Home in the Woods, and Pocahontas. We explored the ideas of many types of habitats and decorated our own tiny houses.
