Week of Aug. 25

Mrs. Ni

Finding a rhythm to our days!

As we close out  the second week of school, the class has been finding a rhythm to our days, which has started to create bonding and a class culture that is strengthening.

In Math, the students are practicing counting and writing numbers up to 5. The children are obviously capable of counting higher, but we want to take care to create a strong number sense. They practiced grouping animal figurines into groups of 5’s and many of them decided to sort them by specific animal as well. We are especially focused on writing numbers as there are several that can be confusing and often written backwards. We also practiced counting by 5’s with a silly video!

The class has spent time this week discussing the virtue of prudence and how that might apply practically to daily life. One way we explored this concept is by reading literature such as Blueberries for Sal, A Home in the Woods, and Brambly Hedge-Autumn Story. We discussed foraging and preserving and how this is a wonderful example of practicing this virtue. On Thursday, we had the exciting opportunity to make slow cooker berry jam. Hopefully it will be a delicious reminder!

Our scripture recitation for the last 2 weeks has been Psalm 118:24. Ask your student to recite it for you as they have done an excellent job memorizing it!
