Adding up Fun and Discovery
What an exciting and busy week we have had in Kindergarten! We trampled through Valley Forge, finished our explicit phonics instruction for each letter of the Alphabet, started math addition studies, and explored with magnets. Not to mention the students' beautiful Christmas program and our field trip to Gateway Discovery. Here are a few highlights of the week!
The scholars started exploring addition, specifically by creating number bonds. We used hands on manipulatives to explore the idea of 2 parts making a whole and a whole being split into 2 parts. We practiced all the ways we can create number bonds for 10.Their excitement for math this week was palpable!
In science, we explored magnets! We tested objects all over the classroom to see which were magnetic. The students predicted shiny things to be metallic and magnetic, but soon found out that shiny doesn’t necessarily mean an object is magnetic. Then we guided magnetic tokens through mazes using a stronger magnet underneath. This was a fun exploration of a magnet’s properties of attraction.
We had lovely collaboration in the classroom this week and I’m so proud to see the children’s growth over the last few months. Have a wonderful weekend!
