Mrs. Ni
Shining with Sh, Kicking with Ck
Once again, we have had a fun-filled week of learning and exploring new concepts.
In phonics, we worked on the digraphs ck and sh. We learned that ck comes at the end of a short vowel word, like duck, sock, and truck. We also learned about sh and how when the letters s and h are together, they make one sound-/sh/. We found sh at the beginning of words and the end of words like fish, flash, and ship.
For Geography this week, we traveled to the continent of Africa, specifically the countries of Kenya and Tanzania. We learned that both countries have beautiful grasslands called the savanna and are home to amazing animals. Some animals we focused on were elephants, zebras, giraffes, and bongos. We read the book Bringing the rain to the Kapiti Plain by Verna Aardema.
Of course, we finished our week by celebrating Valentine’s Day. We had a full day of themed phonics, math, and science lessons. We completed it by exchanging valentines and eating delicious snacks!
