Grateful Hearts
What a wonderful and busy time we had in the classroom the last few days! It was full of hard work (especially in phonics), crafts, and lots of fun..
We have been studying many Native Americans in history, such as Squanto and Pocahontas, and learning about their vital role in helping the colonists survive. We made a two-part craft where we weaved strips of paper together, folded the paper, then sewed the edges with yarn. This satchel was a perfect vessel for carrying the beaded corn they also carefully created.
What a joy it was to join the 1st and 2nd grade for a snack mix “feast”. The 1st and 2nd graders blessed us with a reading about the very First Thanksgiving and the sweet Kindergartners prayed for everyone. We completed the excitement with a rousing game of themed charades, that kept everyone laughing!
The class worked hard this month learning to recite the poem We Thank Thee by Ralph Waldo Emerson, including sign language to help the student’s memories. Perhaps they can share some of it with your families over the holiday. Wishing you a restful and blessed Thanksgiving week!
