What is the world made of?
The Kindergarten class managed to cover a lot of learning, even in a short school week!
We have started practicing specific letters of the alphabet and their phonemes or sounds. We work on awareness of those sounds by practicing blending the sounds of a word together and taking those sounds apart and identifying them. We spelled several basic words this week which the students found very exciting.
One highlight of the week was a visit from our dance instructor, Ms. Nelson, to teach us an organized dance. This is set to our school spirit song, Celebration, by Forrest Frank. We will continue practicing!
It was a science experiment week, which had the class buzzing with excitement. The book What is the World Made Of? was helpful in explaining the difference between solids, liquids, and gases. To explore these concepts, we decided to fill a water bottle with vinegar, a balloon with baking soda, then attach the balloon over the water bottle opening. Once the baking soda started to drop into the vinegar, the balloons were blown up by the gases from the chemical reaction. It was a joy to see the students process these concepts in a tangible way.
