Week of Sept. 22

Mrs. Ni

The ants go marching...

The Kindergarten class covered a challenging topic this week learning the nasalized short a sound. We called it the “whiny a” and it occurs when the letter a is followed by the letter n or m. This was a challenging concept for the class that we will continue to practice as we move forward in our studies.

We were able to exercise this concept during science this week while we studied ANTS! Thanksgiving Point has a wonderful ant farm so we wanted an introduction to the way the ants work in the colonies before our opportunity to observe them in person. The students learned about the work of ants and spent time notebooking about their various body parts.

We continued our studies of North America, centering on the United States! Through literature, we explored island living off the eastern coast by reading One Morning in Maine and Surrounded by Sea. We followed this up by doing map work and notebooking animals that might be in these geographical areas. Next week, we will maintain our study of this great nation by exploring life on the Western plains.
