Week of Aug. 25

Mrs. Olson

They blew me away!

Our first graders are memorizing rock stars! They recited our monthly poem in just two weeks! It was a huge accomplishment since it was a longer poem and they conquered it with confidence. The best part was watching their faces light up with big smiles when they finished.

Highlights From Our Week:

Phonics & Spelling – We practiced short vowels and wrapped up with a spelling test. Everyone did a great job!

ELA – We are reading My Father’s Dragon and working on a lap book. They love the story and are working on cutting skills, coloring in the lines, and practicing reading comprehension.

Math – We finished our Chapter 1 test (Numbers to 10), and the class did an excellent job.

Geography – We learned all about New Hampshire and memorized the capital. You are welcome to quiz them on the capitals of Maine and New Hampshire.

Science – We explored forecasting the weather, discussed the atmosphere, and even did a hands-on experiment to demonstrate air pressure. To make it extra fun, we went outside to document the weather and practiced using adjectives to describe what we observed.

Biblical Studies – We read Jesus Calms the Storm (Mark 4:39) and had a discussion about the storms in our own lives and how God is always with us, reminding us that with Him, anything is possible. The students even had a chance to reenact the story, which they absolutely loved!

I hope you all enjoy your long weekend and I look forward to another great week ahead!
