Week of Oct. 6

A Fabulous Finish to Our First Quarter!

What an incredible end to our first quarter! I am so proud of how much our class has learned and accomplished together.

This week, we shared lots of love and creativity. With Leon out sick, we sent him a big class card filled with handmade hearts to wish him well. We also made a special card for Mr. Gant’s baby shower. Our class loves finding ways to show kindness through our handmade cards, and they are all so creative!

In Phonics, we worked hard on -ed endings and learned that they can make three different sounds. I was so proud to hear students calling out -ed words throughout the day in other subjects.

To celebrate the end of our Viking Unit, I surprised the students with a “Vikings Only” party. We made shields and necklaces using the RUNE alphabet, listened to Viking music, and enjoyed a fun snack of grapes (Vikings loved grapes for making wine), pretzels (“bread”), and cheese. Their excitement and appreciation made the day so special. I went home with a full heart.

We also learned about Temperance and read our fable The Goose with the Golden Egg. The students completed a fun drawing to help remember the story. We finished Elmer and the Dragon and completed a comprehension guide designed for second through fifth graders. I was so proud as they tackled big words and big concepts.

I couldn’t be prouder of how much growth and excitement this class has shown in just one quarter. I can’t wait to share their portfolios with you next week and spend time with you during Parent Teacher Conferences.
