Mrs. Sytsma

The Good Life

Picture 11 and 12 year olds come in from recess asking, "Is it time for Macbeth?"

The sixth grade reading of Shakespeare's classic tragedy is well underway, and students have thrown themselves into acting out all the roles - kings, warriors, murderers, and even a ghost!  This story is giving us a platform to talk about loyalty, conscience, the deceptive nature of evil, and how our choices shape our character.  We are having deep conversations about motivation and worldview. By reading this type of literature, students improve their vocabulary and reading comprehension skills, but more importantly, they begin to form a picture of what the good life designed by our Creator truly looks like, and how settling for anything less is actually harmful to our deepest self.  What a rich feast of learning is set before our scholars every day!
