Transformations
Our Telos scholars have entered the world of transformations for pre-algebra, and the students seem to enjoy the visual nature of the unit. We have used transparency paper to visualize translations, reflections, and rotations in the coordinate plane. We also have started dilating shapes to create similar figures that are different sizes.
The seating set up in our class has changed to eliminate the rows and make small groups of two or three. The hope is that students will be more open to working with each other and explaining their thinking to their partners. Talking and working in groups is a great way for students to solidify their understanding of the concepts and help students that might need to hear things a second or third time.
