Jef Fowler
A Bit About Me
Interim Head of School
M.B.A. Finance, University of Texas Austin
Jef Fowler is the retired Head of School for Veritas Academy in Austin, Texas, a classical, Christian, collaborative school which he co-founded in 2004 and where he continues to serve as an advisor, school board member, and chairman of its board of trustees (a small board of founders and former long-time leaders of the school whose sole responsibility is to safeguard the school’s mission, vision, and values). The PK-12 school of almost 700 students owns and occupies a 97-acre hill country campus, of which Jef led the identification, acquisition, and development.
Prior to Veritas, Jef was a corporate finance/M&A consultant and entrepreneur, having started and/or led several high growth companies in a variety of industries in Houston and Austin. He earned an MBA in Finance from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin and is a former CPA, with years of Big Four strategic and financial consulting experience at PwC and KPMG.
Presently, Jef runs Quiddity Consulting LLC where he advises, trains, and coaches Christian school boards and heads throughout the country and often speaks to parent groups at those schools. He also serves as a coach and presenter for the Herzog Foundation at its training events for hundreds of Christian school boards and heads in the U.S.
Jef and his wife of 40 years, Starrla, are high school sweethearts from the windswept plains of Oklahoma and have three adult children (Caleb-30, Caedmon-28, and Chloe-24), all born in Texas and all graduates of Veritas Academy. Jef & Starrla currently reside in midtown Memphis, Tennessee where they relocated prior to the arrival of their first grandchild (Florence, aka “Effie”) in 2024. They desperately miss brisket barbeque, Tex-Mex, and country living.
