Utah Capital Trip

This week our scholars got to take a trip to the Utah Capitol. They started the day by meeting up with John Johnson, one of our state senators. He answered student questions and shared about his passion for good quality education. He emphasized the importance of pursuing the truth and wisdom that is found in the past - something that our classical school emphasizes as well!

We even got a backstage tour of the capitol building. Scholars learned about the history of the building and the many tributes to the significant figures featured in the paintings. They saw the earthquake seismic isolators under the building which allow it to stay safe during an earthquake. They even got to sit in on both a senate and house session.

One of the students favorite stories was the story of the Utah state bird, the California Gull. When the pioneers came out to this territory, their crops were being destroyed by crickets. All hope was gone until the seagulls came and ate all of the crickets, saving the crops and the pioneers! If you look closely at the rotunda dome, you will see several 6 foot wide paintings of seagulls in honor of this avian heroism.

Our students are well into quarter three and continue to develop their academic skills. I cannot wait to see what else this quarter holds for our scholars!
