Mr. Gant
Off to a great start!
“Sorry! I don’t want any adventures, thank you. Not today.”
- Bilbo Baggins, The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien
As your scholars start the new school year, it is likely that there is a mix of excitement, fear, and sadness. Sadness because summer is over. Fear because there are so many unknowns related to new students, new teachers, and new subjects. Excitement because a new school year contains so much potential. When Gandalf invited Bilbo on an adventure, Bilbo was hesitant, and yet he would soon grow into a mature hobbit after facing his fears and fighting a dragon.
We have so much to look forward to this year, and just as Bilbo embraced his adventure, I pray that this school year becomes a memorable and formative moment in the life of your young scholar. In our Bible class, we have seen how God is the ultimate storyteller. All of history is a story of God’s plan to graciously save sinners through his Son, Jesus Christ. In our Humanities classes, we have started discussing our first novels. Our Telos Scholars have especially enjoyed getting outside to enjoy the end of Summer weather and presenting their own creative writing essays to the class. In preparation for our first novel, our Middle School students were particularly excited to tell harrowing tales of surviving Yellow Fever. I am excited to see what these creative minds get up to in the coming weeks.
We may face dragons this year, but our dragons are of a different kind, personal, academic, or something else entirely. My prayer is that your students grow in wisdom and virtue as you watch them tackle the challenges of a new year. The staff at Telos is here to guide them along the way, and we all want to see them succeed.
In Christ,
Corey Gant
