Mr. Heise
Happy 2026!
We're back after break and in Latin and Algebra we focused on settling back into routine and played some review games to remember where we left off last semester!
This week in Pi Class, students used their soldering skills—developed while working on their line-tracing cars—to solder GPIO headers onto their Raspberry Pi computer circuit boards. The GIPO headers are 40 pin connections that let the Pi computers plug into external devices.
With the GIPO connection pins soldered on, we are in a place to do some cool things! We have small displays for the Pi's, so I wrote up a Python program that says 'hello world' in Latin, prints the time/date and scrapes NOAA weather reports for current local snowfall forecasts. Students worked through the program to understand how the code functions and how information can be pulled from the internet and displayed on a device. They then used SSH to connect to their Raspberry Pi computers and transfer their Python files directly onto the Pi to display. Quite a fun first project! More to come.
