"A New Era of Flashcards"
This week in Latin class, we unveiled our very own digital flashcard website, designed to match the exact organization of the students’ Latin notebooks. Every chapter, every dialogue section—verbs, nouns, imperatives—is arranged just the way they’ve been practicing in class. No more shuffling through random cards or hunting for the right deck. Now, everything flows in perfect grammatical order—just as the Romans would have wanted… if they’d had laptops. As I was debugging JavaScript I thought to myself, “Et tu, Syntax Error?”
This marks a step toward what we’ve been building all year: a living Latin environment where technology serves the language rather than distracts from it. The flashcards reinforce the same phrases we use in class—so what they hear, they see; what they see, they say. Like faith ("as small as a mustard seed"), students having strong recall of at least a few little words and phrases that they drill often and know very well helps us make anchor points to start pulling Latin into more and more conversational contexts.
