Week of Sept. 15

Mr. Heise

Camping in the Uintas!

Telos sent an exploratory mission into the High Uintas this weekend as some of the upper school boys backpacked to Island Lake on the first annual Telos camping adventure.

After the first mile was completed and we settled into the rhythms of walking, we picked up steam and eventually the boys were charging to finish the ~9 mile hike.

I gave Declan and George my Garmin watch and they were our navigation to our site. We chopped wood, made a campfire and jumped into the icy cold waters of Island Lake.

Our scholars learned the fine art of fly fishing and the equally fine art of eating cookies and gas station junk food because the fish weren't biting! We got in some great rock skipping practice, debated life's deepest questions, factored large numbers to pass the time on the hike, and even told tall tales around the campfire.

We returned with all scholars in good spirits and no new pets were acquired in the course of this trip, making it a great success.
