A Great Start to 2026!
Happy New Year and welcome back!
Returning to school after a long, fun-filled holiday break can be difficult, for students as well as teachers. I tried to have a few fun things in place this week to help alleviate some of the vacation blues. We began reading two new books (one for Literature, one for History), and I tucked a bookmark for each student in one of them. Everyone likes a new bookmark, right?
I also let the students choose where to sit for the week. They were VERY excited about that and have handled the freedom with a good amount of self-control.
One of the highlights for me is our Bible time. We have spent a good amount of time learning about the differences between Saul and David. They both failed as men and sinned greatly against God, but David humbly repented with a "broken and contrite spirit," while Saul remained proud and arrogant. We discussed the connection between David's attitude and the knights of the Middle Ages who were called to chivalrous behavior. There were some really fruitful conversations!
Overall, we had a great first week back!
