Week of March 9

Mrs. Ni

Counting to 100 and a High-Flying Visitor

The last few weeks in Kindergarten we have been busy learning all about numbers to 100! The students have been practicing counting, recognizing number patterns, and finding different ways to make numbers. We counted by ones, fives, tens, and even tried some fun number games to help us get all the way to 100.

We also celebrated the 100th day of school, which is a big milestone for our class! Students enjoyed special activities centered around the number 100. We wrote 100 words using word families. This was quite a challenge for our small class so the teacher joined in to help! We counted 100 items for snack, collecting 10 of each type of snack. We have been working on beaded 100 frames and the students are excited to bring those home soon. It was a fun way to celebrate how much we have learned.

To make the week even more exciting, Mr. Shea invited us to hear a special guest speaker visiting his classroom. He coaches high school football and he also works full-time as a pilot. The students watched videos of a take off and landing at JFK while asking questions. The class asked great questions and loved hearing about life in the cockpit. This visit tied in well to us learning about The Wright Brothers this week in history. Perhaps their favorite part was getting a pair of wings and airplane cards.

Coffee House was a great success! What a special class we have this year, full of personality on the stage. They worked so hard on their poem recitation and signing!
