Week of May 4

Mrs. Ni

Gold Rush Fun and Lemon Volcanoes

Kindergarten had a week full of exciting activities! In science, we made lemon volcanoes. Using the lemon’s natural citric acid, students created colorful chemical reactions by adding baking soda and soap. Once the lemons were poked, the juice was released, causing the mixtures to fizz and bubble.

In history, we learned about California’s Gold Rush and the long journey many people took in hopes of striking it rich. Students practiced mining for their own “gold” by searching for gold gems hidden in rice. They quickly discovered that mining is harder than it looks, especially with fool’s gold mixed in!

We also wrapped up our math curriculum this week with a visit to Mrs. Ni’s ‘General Store’. Students practiced counting coin values to purchase their favorite items. For the remainder of the school year, we will focus on engaging STEM projects and fun review games. We started with some catapult making, but plan to improve our catapults in the weeks to come.

One of the highlights of the week was celebrating a birthday! We always love celebrating with our friends, especially when treats are involved.
